1. Time-Life's Sounds of the Eighties: Essential 80's is about as essential a collection of the era's hits as Police Academy would be a summation of the decade's films. Retrospective stalwarts like "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina & the Waves, "Mickey" by Toni Basil, and Ray Parker, Jr.'s "Ghostbusters" may be auditory windows into the age of the skinny tie, but at 12 measly cuts, Essential 80's.

2. Mr. Gershwin himself is playing the piano for "Rhapsody in Blue", and it is 17 minutes of pure bliss. There are 41 songs on this CD, and in my opinion, not a dud in the group. You will want to listen to it again and again. I also have "George Gershwin, The Ultimate Collection." It is also good, but this Essential CD /5(83).

3. Essential '80s: is a fine mid-line collection, boasting 14 number one hits from the early '80s. None of these songs are rare, but it's nice to have Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart," the J.
